3 soldiers, 2 militants killed on LoC

Operation Continues In Nowgam Sector

ZAHID MAQBOOL

Srinagar, Nov 14: Two militants and three Army men were killed in a fierce encounter near Line of Control (LOC) in Nowgam sector of Baramulla district last night.
Taking to Greater Kashmir, Srinagar-based Defence Spokesperson Lt. Col J.S. Brar said, “The encounter started last night when a group of militants were sighted in Saugam near Taut Mari Gali near LOC in Nowgam sector by 17 JAT Regiment. On being challenged they opened fire which triggered an encounter in which two militants and three Army men lost their lives. Two AK assault rifles have been recovered from the scene of the encounter.”
An Army official who was part of the operation said, “Last night a group of five militants was noticed in the area. The Army rushed in reinforcements to the area within no time and plugged all the routes of their possible escape. However we lost our three men in the resultant encounter. Two militants were also killed.”
The official said that combing operation is going on in the area. “Given the difficult terrain of the area, it is very difficult to comb the area. We are treading cautiously in the search of the militants as we have already lost three of our men.”
The killed soldiers were identified as Sepoy Bhupinder, Sepoy Mahendra Pal and Sepoy Uday Singh.
Pertinently, this is the second major infiltration bid foiled by soldiers near the LoC within a week. On Friday, Army killed four militants attempting to sneak into the Valley in Keran sector.
