Akhoon reviews status of Srinagar-Kargil highway
Passengers asked to verify status
Jammu, Nov 14: Minister for Transport, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Qamar Ali Akhoon today reviewed the condition of Srinagar-Kargil-Leh Highway at a high level meeting here.
Chief Engineer Project BEACON, Brigadier T P S Rawat, Secretary Transport, Muhammad Abbas Dar, Transport Commissioner, Mehraj Ahmad Kakroo and senior officers of the Transport Department attended the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that this important road link, which is only surface communication to the twin districts of Kargil and Ladakh and happens to be the lifeline for the people of the area, should remain open till the weather allows.
It was given out in the meeting that the condition of the road would be reviewed again by the concerned officers next week and the decision would be taken accordingly.
Meanwhile the passengers traveling on this Highway have been instructed to verify the traffic status of the highway from the concerned authorities before embarking for their journey.
