COPPER UNIT RAIDED
Equipment, utensils seized
Srinagar, Nov 14: A copper factory operating clandestinely in Gulab Bagh area of the City was raided Wednesday while utensils and machinery were seized, an official handout said.
“A team of officers of District Industries Centre, Srinagar and the representatives of Kashmir Copper Workers Trade Union, led by General Manager raided Gulab Bagh area where important machinery components whereon copper utensils were manufactured illegally stood confiscated along with machine made utensils,” an official handout said.
The raid has been conducted in view of the standing instructions of Director Industries and Commerce Kashmir, Meraj-u-din Kenu, it added. The team was escorted by a police team led by the SHO Zakura.
“The Copper Act-2006,” as per officials, “has been brought into force by the Government to protect the craft and business interest of the craftsmen connected with the manufacturing of copper utensils by hand tools alone.”
