CU foundation stone laying ceremony postponed
Ganderbal: The foundation stone laying ceremony of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) campus here scheduled for November 16 has been postponed.
The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had announced during a function here last month that the ceremony would be held on November 16. Officials said the foundation stone was scheduled to be jointly laid by Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal and Omar Abdullah.
However the ceremony has been postponed in view of the recent cabinet reshuffle in the Union Government and subsequent change of portfolio in the MHRD.
“The Vice-Chancellor CUK has contacted the office of the new Minister MHRD, M Pallam Raju, for the purpose. The Minister has expressed his inability and the next date for laying of the foundation stone will be finalized in consultation with the Ministry and CM Omar Abdullah,” said an official of the CUK.
Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Showkat Ahmad Mir said that all preparations have been made for the ceremony. “It is expected that the foundation stone would be laid in the second or third week of next month,” the DC said.
