Change, for better

Tradition and change should go hand in hand

LIVING SOCIETY

ADEELA HAMEED

Change is a healthy thing, provided it’s not forced. It is a characteristic of every object be it living or lifeless. Seasons change, and so do landscapes change. Day merges into night and back again to let us be in peace and work respectively. The human societies, their living standards, morals, ethics, customs, and practices also change with time. Therefore change can be defined as the gradual movement in the environment from better to worse or vice versa.
Humans have always a quest for change, ready for introducing new trends and practices at the cost of old ones. These changes may occur at the level of an individual, a community, a country or the globe as a whole.
Change in ideas brought out revolutions one after the other, change in thoughts put up libraries together, change in action made way for new inventions and discoveries and change in practices vanished nations as such. Some of the changes had a positive impact on people and others a bad one.
The word “Change” in the later centuries was given a new name ------- modernization. But modernization, has altogether a different meaning. This name has been used to cover up many of our flaws. Being modern, does not mean having luxurious tastes, plenty of cars, high profile acquaintances, expanded wardrobes or a bungalow stretched over a mile. It means to have a dictionary of ideas, libraries of knowledge, encyclopedias of vision and a sea of action. Being modern means, to be intelligent enough in judging events around you, to be yourself even if you are at the top, being unprejudiced, free of envies and having a true hatred towards showing off.
Modern, a man has truly become but not without adverse effects. People earlier were unsurpassed in their dedications, unbeatable in their strength, unabated in their commitment and truly realistic in their approach towards life, though miles behind were they in industrial development.
Change is a must but so are values and morals. Both should go hand in hand, none suppressing or surpassing the other. Changes, which are favorable to the society must be encouraged.
“Sprouted from the bud like a flower,
child is born innocent and pure.
World has changed, it changes others,
And now son is no longer his mother’s.
Wake up, for it is never too late,
Guide the future before it fades”.
