JK Sports Council wakes up to ‘DOB fudging’
Crime Branch Seeks Report On The Matter
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Nov 15: A day after reports revealed that an official of the J&K State Sports Council has “mischievously” recorded “forged date-of-birth in a fake certificate”, the Secretary of the Council Dilip Thusoo Wednesday said the authorities would submit a report to the Crime Branch regarding the matter within a week.
“We have received a letter from Crime Branch seeking our report on the matter. We will do it in a week after verifying all the relevant records,” Thusoo told Greater Kashmir.
He said the Sports Council would take immediate action against the official if found guilty.
On Wednesday Greater Kashmir reported that the J&K State Sports Council has overlooked the ‘authentication of certificates’ of an official of the Council, Muhammad Afzal Malik, even though the Board of School Education had authenticated 10 years back that Afzal has “mischievously forged date of birth as 31-12-1958 in the fake certificate when the actual DOB of the candidate is 4-9-1955.”
The newspaper report also said the Council has done little to act against the official and has rather showered a benevolence of sorts on him by giving him an ‘interim promotion’ as an administrative officer.
However, the Secretary said the Council would do everything within the ambit of law. “Investigations into the case are on. We will soon prepare a report regarding the matter,” Thusoo said.
Asked why the State Sports Council has not submitted the report on the matter in the past 10 years to the Crime Branch or any other investigation agency, the Secretary said he was new to the Council and noted it (Council) would file a report within a week.
The BOSE had ten years ago authenticated that the certificate of Muhammad Afzal Malik—who would later work as the Public Relation Officer at the Sports Council—is absolutely “fake and fraud.”
The Secretary of the Council said he will ascertain the facts and submit the report regarding official’s date of birth on the basis of “merit and truth”.
