Shopian, Nov 16: The family of a girl allegedly gang-raped here last week, is awaiting justice as most of the accused are still at large.
Police has till now arrested only one of the four accused involved in the alleged gang-rape of Tasleema of Kanjiwara, Shopian. Police also has constituted a special team to solve the case.
“We are waiting for justice. My cousin was gang-raped and dropped bare 10 kilometers away from her home. We can’t forget this tragedy,” Sayaar Ahmad, cousin of the victim said. “Although police have arrested one accused Javed Rather but we want all the four culprits behind the bars and stern action should be taken against them,” he said. Tasleema’s family continues to be in shock and they don’t step out of their house.
One of the accused arrested by the police has been identified as Javed Ahmad Rather S/O Abdul Hamid Rather of village Kanjiwara. Among the four accused, the victim had identified only Javed Rather while as the other three could not be identified by her.
“After recording the statement of the victim, we arrested Javed Rather. Police has also constituted a special team to nab other accused,” DySP Shopian, Manzoor Ahmad told Greater Kashmir.
“We have also brought the victim before the court and she has recorded her statement” the DSP said.
Tasleema was, on November 10, kidnapped by four persons from her home in a red colored Santro car and was taken to Liro, Kulgam. The girl was gang-raped by her kidnappers and was then dropped naked in a nearby Nallah.
After the news spread in the area, hundreds of people staged protests in Shopian and Kulgam demanding stern action against the accused.
An FIR 345/2012 under section: 366, 376, 109 RPC stands registered against the accused.
