IUST organizes seminar on life of Imam Hussain (RA)
Speakers Throw Light On Supreme Sacrifice Made For Islam

Awantipora, Nov 16: Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Friday organised a day-long seminar to highlight the role and contribution of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) towards building human values and virtues.
Titled “Contribution of Iman Hussain (RA) in Building Human Values,” the seminar was organized in collaboration with IUST students union.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor IUST, Professor AR Trag said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) is a pioneering example of courage, righteousness and steadfastness. “By sacrificing his life, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) upheld the true meaning of Islam. He showed to all that it was better to lay down one’s life than to budge before tyranny, injustice and falsehood. He introduced a new phase in the Islamic history,” Trag said in his Presidential address.
He said that Hazrat Imam Hussain’s upbringing played a major role in framing him as one of the pious followers in Islam. “He was brought up in the pious company of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The guidance which Imam Hussain (RA) received throughout was the reason that he proved to be an exemplary figure with utmost virtues and qualities. In fact, he infused a new spirit into the humanity,” the VC said.
The VC urged the students to follow the footsteps of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in every sphere of life.
Trag highlighted the importance of 10th of Muharram saying that many important and landmark events have occurred on this day. “10th of Muharram marks the birth of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), Hazrat Suleiman (AS) was given the kingdom, Hazrat Younis (AS) was rescued from the well and many other important events took place on this day. The martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussian (RA) occurred on the same day so it has great significance for us,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Registrar IUST, Prof Abdul Gani Rather said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) remained firm on the fundamental teachings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). “Imam Hussain (RA) was a true reflection of ideals of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and inherited all the qualities of the beloved messenger (PBUH) of Allah,” he said.
Chief librarian Prof Wajih Alvi, in his speech, stressed on unity among the various sects of Muslims.
Head, Department of Arabic, Dr Abdul Majeed Andrabi, Dean School of Technology, Prof KKS Jamwal and in-charge Head of Department Islamic Studies, Dr Showkat Hussain also spoke on the occasion.
The students from various departments also participated in the seminar. Shafaqat Hassan of B.Tech Civil Engineering, Asima Andrabi of BTech Civil Engineering and Karaar Hussain of BTech Electronics and Communications were adjudged first, second and third respectively.
