Srinagar, Nov 17: Gearing up his staff to tackle polythene menace more stringently, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner (SMC), Commissioner Dr GN Qasba Saturday spoke tough on the issue even as he expanded his “Anti-polythene army” making more of the officials responsible to keep “extra vigil”.
Dr Qasba, as per an official handout, said this while chairing a meeting at the SMC head office.
“Dr Qasba strictly passed instructions to the Building Inspectors of all the Wards that they shall be designated as Antipolythene Officers in their concerned wards for carrying out an effective anti polythene drive in the City,” the handout said.
The official “directed the Ward Officers that Building Inspectors designated as Anti polythene Officers shall ensure regular checks in the markets, conduct raids and surprise visits on daily basis.”
“Dr Qasba directed Chief Sanitation Officer to go for surprise visits to take stock of the ongoing polythene drives along with the concerned Ward Officer regularly,” the handout said.
“No polythene shall be visible in the City. We’ll ensure that City is polythene free,” Dr Qasba, as per the handout, said adding that the Commissioner would personally monitor the execution of orders .
Meanwhile the SMC launched a massive Anti-Polythene campaign in the City under the supervision of Joint Commissioner Administration SMC Fayaz Ahmed Balla.
“The Joint Commissioner during the drive interacted with the general public, shopkeepers, Raidawallas and the bystanders about the ban on polythene and its adverse consequences,” the SMC spokesperson Masrat Yousuf said.
