Macabre Action

Another human tragedy is enacted in Palestine; with impunity.  On Sunday, eleven members of one family including five women and four children were killed when Israel bombarded a house in Gaza city.  In five-day onslaught 84 Palestine’s were killed, including fourteen young children and about eight hundred have been wounded, one third of whom are children. Moreover, with no respite in sight the number of killed and wounded is increasing. Inadequate medical care for the wounded is alarming. The World Health Organization in a statement has stated that Gaza medical facilities were being overwhelmed because of the increasing number of wounded with larger number being children.  The UN body appealed for $10m in immediate international support to help them cope with the casualties.
To cover its heinous crimes against civilians, women and children the Israeli bombers targeted buildings housing media centers in the Gaza city. Six journalists have been wounded and one journalist lost his leg. The targets did not only include al-Quds television but also other independent media centers. Even in the worst of the situations newspaper offices and media centre are not bombed. Attacking media centers is a brazen manifestation of Israelis fascist mindset.  Bombing the media houses in Gaza is in fact an onslaught on freedom of press. The world media should rise to the occasion and with one voice condemn attack on the offices of television channels and newspaper offices. Criminal silence by key international players and the schisms within the Muslim world have further emboldened Israel to threaten to expand its assault on Gaza.  It was sad to note that against all expectations, after getting elected for the second term President, Obama, without checking the facts, justified air bombing and shelling of Gaza by holding Hamas responsible for the crisis. The tension started on 8th November when Israeli military incursion into Gaza killed a child, followed by other incursions inside Palestine. End of Israel attacks on Gaza is in larger interest of global peace. President Obama and other world leaders need to play a proactive role in ensuring that Israel stopped bombing Gaza.
