1,60,000 polythene bags recovered
SMC intensifies raids, HO conducts market inspection
Srinagar, Nov 21: Around 1,60,000 polythene bags have been seized from the City in the past three days since Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) intensified its Anti-Polythene campaign.
“Today Anti Polythene Squad of SMC seized around 874 KGs of polythene bags from different wards of the Srinagar. During the drive around 500 kg of banned polythene was recovered from a house in Balgarden area with assistance of police,” a SMC handout said. “Coming days will see such drives intensifying with each passing day. This will include door-to-door campaigns where the SMC officials will have interactive sessions with the households about the ills of the polythene menace,” said the SMC Commissioner Dr GN Qasba.
“1500 polythene carry bags were recovered from a prominent bakery shop Jee Enn at Poloview Lal Chowk,” the SMC handout said.
Meanwhile a team of Food Safety Officers led by Dr Rubeena Shaheen Health Officer SMC inspected various City markets in areas including HMT, Zainkote, Khosipora, Rawalpora, Bemina, and Gund Hassi Bhat. “About 70 KGs, of rotten fruits and vegetables were destroyed on-the-spot,” a SMC handout said.
