Parliament adjourned on opening day
FDI RETAIL ISSUE
ANIL ANAND
New Delhi, Nov 22: Both the houses of Parliament on the opening day of winter session witnessed repeated disruptions on FDI in retail issue forcing adjournment for the day on Thursday.
The entire opposition including Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, which are supporting the government from outside, failed to put up a united face as Trinamool Congress’s failed to bring in a no-confidence motion against the Congress led Government in Lok Sabha. The move fell flat as the party could not garner support of 50 MPs needed to ensure the motion’s admission.
The UPA-led government is trying to break the logjam on FDI issue by calling an all party meeting on Monday. CPI-M MP Sita Ram Yechury said that this was indicated by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath during Business Advisory Committee meeting of Rajya Sabh held earlier in the day.
Outside Parliament, parties made their stands clear, except Mayawati who remained ambiguous. “It is up to the House to decide on what they want discussion. After that our party will make its stand clear. It is for Centre to decide, for the Speaker to decide as to under which rule the discussion should take place," she said.
