Jaish commdr killed in encounter
Sopore, Nov 24: Police and Army Saturday killed a top Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) commander in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir.
Giving the details, Superintendent of Police Sopore, Imtiyaz Hussain, said that on the basis of specific information about the presence of the commander in the house of Ali Muhammad Bhat at Chatlor Rafiabad, Sopore, a police party with the assistance of Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles cordoned the house late last night.
He said Saturday morning a search party led by Sub-Inspector Dilraj Singh entered the house, the hiding militant fired on the search party, injuring Singh. “In the exchange of fire that lasted for some time, the Pakistani militant commander of JeM outfit who was operating under the code names of Showkat, Shazeb, Shoib, Yasir got killed,” he said.
The police officer said the militant was wanted in several civilian killings. He had infiltrated into the Valley in year 2002 and had been active in Kupwara and Sopore area since then. “As per the initial investigation, the slain militant was working as chief commander of Jaish-e-Muhammad. He was involved in killing of Zonal President of a political party namely Ghulam Muhammad Mir and a local leader of another political party namely Ghulam Mohidin Bhat, besides other subversive activities. One AK rifle, one pistol along with other arms and ammunition was recovered from the spot,” he said.
