Landmark judgment
This refers to the landmark judgment about divorce as reported in GK, October 30. This is perhaps the first time that a delicate issue has been dwelt in detail in the light of Qur'an. A vital issue had been misinterpreted all along causing widespread misery to the woman folk and destroying many homes. Seen from a wider perspective, this verdict has freed the female sex from the shackles of discrimination and redeemed their status as equals as ordained by the Qur'an – that there is no discrimination on the basis of gender. This judgment could not have come at more appropriate time than now when the whole Muslim Ummah is on the back foot for the actions of fringe elements present in us.
