MLA Doda in dock

Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant

Jammu, Nov 3: A local court here on Saturday issued non-bailable arrest warrants against former minister and Congress Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Doda Abdul Majid Wani and his family members in a case pertaining to the alleged felling of green trees about twenty-years back.
The warrants were issued by Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu SR Gandhi against the MLA and his family members, including Ghulam Ahmed Wani son of Khizarjoo Wani, Abdul Karmin Wani son of Ghulam Ahmed Wani and Abdul Subhan son of Muhammadu Malik,
The court directed Inspector General of Police Jammu region to execute the warrant issued by it for securing their presence in a case registered by police station Doda on July 12, 1993 vide FIR No 77/1993u/s 6 Forest Act.
The court has issued notices to the accused persons on several occasion but despite the fact that the matter was pending since last two decades, the police have failed to secure their presence.
As per the prosecution case the FIR was registered in 1993 on the complaint lodged by the then Range Officer Marmat (Doda) alleging that about 300 labourers of SFC contractors (accused) have entered in compartments 31, 35, 37/Marmat and have started illegal cutting of unmarked up-rooted trees as well as fresh felling.
The police after registering the case had produced challan against eleven persons, including the MLA. After being approached by the accused, the State High Court had, however, transferred the case from Doda to Jammu.
