JKMHC celebrates platinum jubilee

Srinagar, Nov 5: The Platinum Jubilee Celebration of J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club was held at SKICC here on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Tourism and Culture Nawang said the State Government has put “possible efforts for the development of Adventure tourism in the state.
Minister of State for Home and Home Nasir Aslam Wani, who was the guest of honor, said he was hopeful that J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club achieves new heights. “The club indeed has seen many ups and downs its inception,” he said.
Among others present included: President IMF Colonel Chohan, President Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering and Hiking Club, Tour Operators, Mountaineers and Everest Clubbers besides a number of adventure lovers.
Established in 1934 by Tyndale Biscoe, the J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club undertaken many expeditions.
Headed by Muhammad Saleem Shisgar, the Club has been at the forefront of trekking and expeditions. “The club has organized number of activities during last few years including Chadder trek in Zanaskar, Trans Himalaya Trek,” Mahmood Shah General Secretary of the club said.
“During the last one year, the Club organized 13 different treks including the trekking expeditions from Lolab to Bandipora and Gulmarg to Poonch,” he said.
Shah said the club is affiliated with Indian Mountaineering Foundation and is also registered under Registrar of Societies.
