Teacher’s role

This refers to the article, ‘A Torch Bearer’ by G.H Gorkhu. Teachers are appointed on the basis of academic merit, and no other criterion is fixed or defined for an ideal teacher. Moreover, the teachers appointed are teachers by chance, not by choice. A teacher alone can’t make a child a better human being, unless his parents and environment contributes. Regarding administration, it is necessary that a senior teacher must be kept as the administrator as he himself knows where the faults are in the system and how they can be corrected. Regarding curricula, the author says that principles of comparative religions should be given place in the curricula, but our state is a secular state with different religions. Which principles of religion should be included in the curricula needs to be thought about.
