6 yrs on, Baghbela-Chitterkot road awaits macdamisation

Locals accuse BRO authorities of inordinate delay

Tangdhar: Inordinate delay by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to macadamize the Baghbela- Chitterkot road has become a source of inconvenience for the inhabitants.
Widening of the Baghbela- Chitterkot road was started soon after the devastating earthquake in 2005. Though the road was widened within the stipulated time in 2006, however the BRO authorities resorted to “dilly- dallying tactics” to macadamize it.
In absence of macdamisation billows of dust emanate from the road in summer due to vehicular movement. This has taken a heavy toll on the health of inhabitants besides polluting environment.
Doctors at the Sub district hospital Tangdhar said majority of people in the area are suffering from chest and eye infection, and allergy due to dust emanating from the road.
In absence of proper drainage on the road, rain water seeps into many residential houses in Kandi areas causing extensive damage to them.
The locals had recently staged protest against the BRO for failing to macadamize the road. The BRO authorities had assured to macadamize the road before the onset of winter. “The BRO has failed to meet the deadline. We are suffering due to bad condition of the road. Ironically, the BRO authorities are acting as mute spectators,” said a local Peerzada Zahoor.
The aggrieved locals said they are forced to use longer routes to reach their respective destinations. “Our precious time gets wasted in the process. We urge the Chief Minister to look into the matter and impress upon the BRO authorities to get the road macadamized before snowfall,” they said.
When contacted the Chief Engineer BEACON TPS Rawat said the road would be macadamized next year.
