Hotelier attacks bank recovery team

Srinagar, Nov 6: Police has registered a case against the owner of Hotel Silver Star, Mir Manzoor Gazanfar for allegedly attacking a team of J&K Bank who had gone to his home for recovery of dues.
Sources in police said that a recovery team of J&K Bank led by branch head, Air Cargo branch, had a narrow escape when “Mir Manzoor Gazanfar owner of Silver Star hotel, Haji Safdar Mir & Co and Tehran Motors tried to open fire upon them at Panderethan, Srinagar.”
Gazanfar, official sources said, owes over Rs. 8 crore to J&K Bank, on account of a loan taken by him from its Air -Cargo branch some 10 years ago.
The recovery team, sources said, reached to his home at 9 A.M. Tuesday to remind him of the dues.
Sources said that Gazanfar allegedly took out a pistol and tried to fire upon the bank personnel. However, his family members overpowered him and snatched the pistol from him.
The bank team later reached Police Station Pantha Chowk and lodged a written complaint against the Hotel owner.
Police in turn registered a case FIR number 118 against Gazanfar under Arms Act. Police has also seized the pistol, sources said.
Meanwhile, the management of the bank in a statement termed it a “cowardly act by a willful defaulter.”
The bank has condemned the attack.
Despite repeated attempts, no senior police officer was available for comment. Gazanfar could also not be reached for his comment.
Pertinently, the hotel Silver Star was recently is news after one of its employees was killed and two others were injured in a shootout on October 19 in its premises.
Later one among the injured succumbed to his injuries.
