Holds Seminar On Annual Day

Srinagar, Nov 6: Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA) Tuesday held a day-long seminar on “Contemporary Issues in Higher Education.”
A KU spokesman said the seminar was organized to mark the KUTA annual day. “During the seminar, the KUTA representatives apprised the university authorities about various issues that students and teachers are facing in the varsity,” the spokesman said. “The KUTA brought to the notice of the Vice Chancellor various impediments that halt the smooth functioning of varsity and presented their recommendations to him.”
Chairing the seminar, the Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad said he will do his best to address the genuine demands of teachers and students.
Stressing on the need to expand and provide quality education, Prof Talat said: “University is getting importance nationally and we have to take a collective approach in strengthening this importance. We have to build new campuses and at the same time provide quality education therein.”
KU Registrar Prof Zaffar Ahmad Reshi assured KUTA that University will try its level best to fulfill the demands of both teachers and students and “we remain committed to provide quality education.”
In his keynote address, eminent educationist Prof AG Madhosh said: “We can improve in all three major sectors of higher education including education, research and extension provided we upgrade our academic colleges. We have to strengthen our teachers and provide them with all the logistics which they need to make the overall process of teaching and learning more interesting.”
President KUTA Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sangmi while informing the University authorities about various issues and concerns of the teaching fraternity, said: “We request the authorities to entertain  our genuine demands like increase of retirement age, one-man-one post and streamlining of University transportation services. KUTA is working hard to solve the problems of teaching fraternity and hope the authorities will this time also meet to our expectations.”
