Public Health Centre Chitterkot sans medicos

Tangdhar: Failure of authorities to provide basic facilities and manpower at the New Type Public Heath Centre (NTPHC) Chitterkot Karnah has drastically affected its functioning.
The eight- bedded NTPHC building with an operation theater was constructed in 1994. It used to cater to population of over 25 villages including Chamkot, Chitterkot, Gundi, Gujrahan Gundi, Sayedhan Gundi, Badarkot, Habkot, Thambria and Haridal. However in absence of basic infrastructure and manpower the Centre is on the verge of closure.
Presently a medical assistant and a nurse examines the patients from 10 am to 4pm.
“Not a single doctor from sub district hospital visits the Centre. For even minor ailments we have to travel to sub-district hospital. In past some years many patients died here for want of timely medicare. During winter we face problems to ferry patients are most of the roads here are blocked,” the aggrieved locals said.
When contacted the Chief Medical Officer Kupwara Dr Abdul Majeed said a process has been started to depute a female doctor and other supporting staff at the NTPHC Chittarkot. “Health Department has interviewed some NHRM doctors and they would be posted at the Centre soon. It would function as day care heath centre and I will regularly monitor its functioning,” the CMO said.
