‘Farmers ' welfare govt’s priority’

Handwara, Nov 8: MLA Handwara, Chowdhery Muhammad Ramzan Wednesday advised farmers to adopt latest technology in farm sector to increase production and productivity, which according to him would in turn raise their economic status. Addressing the farmers at a Farm Machinery Mela organized by Agriculture Department in Chinar Park here, he said the welfare of the farming community was the top priority of the government.
“The objective of organizing Farm Machinery Melas throughout the Valley is to acquaint the farmers with Modern Agriculture Machinery, Tools & Equipment and also help them to avail benefits of various schemes at their doorsteps,” he said.
On the occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer, Mushtaq Ahmad Parray said the Agriculture Department is making “all out efforts to achieve higher productivity by tapping the land resources, irrigation potential and introducing high yielding varieties of seeds, maintenance of soil fertility and farm mechanization.”
He informed that the farmers of Handwara Sub Division purchased 60 Irrigation Pump Sets, 20 Foot Sprayers, 10 Tractors & 14 Tillers, in the Mela, for which the department will provide Rs. 17 lakh subsidy.
