Shari’ah Scholarship for International Students
The International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) invites qualified students with excellent academic achievements and active in co-curricular activities to apply for the Shari’ah Scholarship Award (SA) to pursue their higher education at either local or overseas universities.
The Shari’ah Scholarship Award is part of the Fund for Shari’ah Scholars in Islamic Finance, which was established to enhance knowledge, research, talents, and intellectual discourse in the field of Shari’ah. The Fund represents Bank Negara Malaysia’s commitment to strengthen the development of the Islamic financial industry.
Study Subject(s): Islamic banking, Conventional Banking, Accounting, Law, Economics, Finance, Management and other related fields appropriate to the development of the Islamic financial industry
Course Level: Undergraduate, Postgraduate and CIFP (only for those with Shariah background).
Scholarship Provider: The International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA)
Eligibility: The scholarship is open to citizens of all countries.
Applicants have to secure admission at a recognized institution of higher learning. Applicants are required to pursue either a Bachelor, CIFP, Master or Doctorate programme, as defined above, in a fulltime programme.
For a postgraduate application, applicants are required to have a CGPA of at least 3.5 or its equivalent. – For an undergraduate application, applicants are required to have a CGPA of at least 3.3 or its equivalent (for the first semester result).
Current students enrolled in the programmes specified above may also apply for the scholarship.
Applicants should not be in receipt of any other scholarship award.
Value: The scholarship covers all related academic fees, a subsistence allowance, books, equipment and end of study or thesis/dissertation completion assistance. For those studying outside Malaysia, return airfare, warm clothing and relocation assistance shall also be provided.
Notification: All shortlisted candidates shall be informed of the interview session via e-mail. If you do not receive any news from us within two (2) months of the date of application submission, your application is deemed unsuccessful.

Selection Criteria
Applicants must be a citizen of a developing country
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence (most recent grades), recommendations from principals / vice principals / teachers / government employers.
Applicants should have an IELTS score at least 5 (no band under 5.0); or TOEFL score at least 450.
Under 40 years old for PhD and Master Program.
Under 25 years old for Undergraduate Program.
Benefits and Conditions
Students are required to enroll in the year in which the scholarship is awarded. The scholarship cannot be extended.
The scholarship will be renewed on an annual basis for the duration of the initial single degree (not double degree) subject to satisfactory performance of the student as determined by the University. Unsatisfactory academic performance will result of termination of scholarship.
The University reserves the right to terminate the scholarship at any time if the student does not obey University rules and regulations or does not progress through programs at the normal full-time rate.
Students who do not meet the minimum Indonesian language proficiency for their study are suggested to follow a pre-course language program for maximum of six months course, and the fee will be covered by University.

Each day, editors pick a dozen top photos which are then voted on by readers of the website to arrive at the best photo of the month.
Photographers from all over the world may participate, but they must be over the age of 18. Photos can be digital or digital scans and only one entry is permitted per person in the monthly contest. All winners retain ownership of copyright.

Youth Event at United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Forum in Vienna 2013
Applications are invited from Youth from all around the world to build understanding and respect among various cultural and religious communities. 5th Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations will take place in Vienna, Austria, from February 26 to 28, 2013.
The primary mission of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is to forge collective political will and to mobilize concerted action aimed at improving cross-cultural understanding and cooperation among countries, peoples and communities. The UNAOC develops its actions at both governmental and civil society levels. It also works to counter the forces that fuel polarization and extremism. While acting at the global level, the UNAOC’s focus is on improving relations within and between Western and Muslim societies and addressing persistent tensions and divides.
The Forum will explore on how responsible leadership can make a difference in the following three major issues-
Addressing the universal right to religious freedom and promoting a new religious pluralism through education
Media pluralism and diversity of media content and their contribution to fostering public debate, democracy and awareness of diverse opinions;
Shaping a new narrative for migration, integration and mobility in the global economy.
Eligibility criteria-
Organization- applicants are members of non-government and non-for-profit youth organizations (organizations lead by youth for the benefit of youth). Applications from local, national, regional or international youth organizations will be reviewed; priority will be given to applicants from local and national youth organizations; in rare cases we’ll accept individual applications, if participants prove an outstanding commitment/expertise in the field of intercultural dialogue

Age- at a point of the 5th UNAOC Forum, the applicant is 18 years old (born before February 26 1994), however, not older than 35 years old
Passport and Visa- the applicant holds a passport valid until at least September 2013 (for a visa to be issued, a passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months after the expected date of entry into the Schengen zone). The applicant possesses sufficient funds to cover the cost of any necessary exit visa, transit visa and a Schengen visa to Austria, including pictures, mailing, courier, local transportation needed to obtain these visas. The applicants also have sufficient funds to cover the costs of medical insurance and any vaccinations required to enter Austria (if applicable)
Local transportation- the applicant possesses sufficient funds to cover inner-city travel in Vienna as well as travel to and from the airport in their country of residence as well as in Austria

Human Rights Advocates Program for Grass Root Human Right Activists
Applicants are invited to apply for Human Rights Advocates Program at Columbia University in New York City. This program is capacity-building program designed to strengthen the skills, knowledge, and networks of proven human rights defenders working at the grassroots level anywhere in the world.
HRAP is fortunate to partner with numerous advocacy organizations to offer a full curriculum of training opportunities. That organizations such as Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International-USA and WITNESS commit resources to working with HRAP is indicative of both their respect for the Advocates and the Program and of the benefits they feel they themselves derive from such participation.
HRAP focuses both on strengthening the skills of the individual Advocates and providing the tools for them to build sustainable organizations that advocate for disadvantaged peoples.
To meet HRAP’s goals, Advocates are expected to participate fully in the offerings provided by HRAP, including-
Skills workshops on advocacy planning and strategies, fundraising, press and media, and building sustainable organizations;
Columbia University courses on human rights, public health, the environment, development, and labor rights;
Meetings and networking opportunities with NGO staff, activists, policymakers, representatives of international institutions, and academics.
Eligibility-
The Program is designed for lawyers, journalists, doctors, teachers, social workers, community organizers, and other human rights activists working with NGOs on issues including sexual and gender-based violence, domestic violence, minority rights, LGBT rights, labor rights, migration, health, social exclusion, environmental justice, and corporate social accountability.
Participants are selected on the basis of their previous work experience in human rights, commitment to the human rights field, and demonstrated ability to pursue graduate-level studies. Full-time students or government officials will not be considered.
Fluency in English is required. Preference is given to those who have not previously had opportunities to travel and study internationally. Advocates must work at the grassroots level. .
Advocates must provide proof of institutional endorsement from their organizations for their participation in the Program and must commit to returning to that organization upon completion of the Program. Only one application per organization should be submitted. More than one application means all applications from that organization will be disqualified. It is up to the applicant to make sure he/she is the sole applicant from his/her organization.

Asian Cultural Council Annual Fellowship Grants for Artists
The Asian Cultural Council (ACC) has opened its applications for fellowships to be awarded in 2013. Candidates can apply for funds to support specialized training, conduct research, and pursue creative activities in the United States or other countries in Asia. Programs ranging in duration from three months to one year will be considered.
Study Subject(s): The ACC’s program covers all the visual and performing arts, both contemporary and traditional. Fields of awards include archeology, architecture (design, history, and theory), arts management, art criticism, art history, conservation, crafts, dance, film and video, museology, music, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and theater.
Eligibility: The Asian Cultural Council grants are open to citizens and permanent residents of the United States. In Asia, the Council’s grants are only open to citizens and permanent residents of the countries of Asia from Afghanistan eastward through Japan and Indonesia.
Only registered non-profit organizations would be eligible for a project or an organization grant. A proof of the organization charitable status would be required together with completed application form and additional supplementary materials.
Selection criteria: Final decisions will be made by the Council’s Board of Trustees in New York at its meeting to be held in May 2013. All applicants will be notified of their application results following the meeting.
