HC reserves order on Masrat Alam’s petition

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Oct 11: The High Court has reserved orders on the petition filed by Muslim League Chairman Masrat Alam, seeking directions for quashing his detention order slapped against him under Public Safety Act.
A bench of justice Virender Singh reserved the order on the petition after hearing Aalm’s counsel Mian Abdul Qayoom and deputy Advocate General N A Shah representing the state.
It is the 5th detention order against the Muslim League Chairman which he had challenged in the court.
The court had quashed Alam’s detention in June this year and he was booked again under PSA in August.
Alam was arrested by police during a raid in Teilbal area in city outskirts here on 18 October 2010, and he was booked several times. Though the court quashed Aalm’s earlier detention orders, he was booked under a fresh detention order.
He was arrested first time on October 2, 1990 under the PSA and after a year, he was released in 1991. He was rearrested in 1993 and detained under PSA and his detention was extended from time to time before his release in 1997.
In September, 1997, Alam was again booked under the PSA and was released in May 2000. And in January 2001, he was again detained for two years before being freed in 2003. From 2003 to 2012, Alam was detained under PSA several times.
