‘Public Durbar’ is now ‘Public Grievances Camp’

GK NEWS NETWORK

Jammu, Oct 16: The J&K Government has finally decided to replace the word “Durbar” in all its official communications.
The General Administration Department has issued a circular to this effect vide no. 32/GAD dated 15 October 2012 impressing upon all the government functionaries, divisional and district administration to ensure that the words "Public Grievances Camp" are used in all relevant communications instead of word “Durbar.”
The development comes in the wake of an appeal-cum-objection filed by a Jammu-based RTI activist Raman Sharma, urging the Chief Minister to issue a direction to the government departments not to use word “Public Durbar” for official meetings of the ministers and officers.
According to the complainant it was “against the values and principles of democratic establishment of equality.”
Raman had argued that “while the people of this country particularly of Jammu and Kashmir have negated the idea of Monarchy some 60 years ago and selected a democratic set-up, unfortunately even today the shadow of monarch system appears to be existent in the mindset of our ministers and bureaucrats.”
