Shopian, Oct 20: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday tried to clear the air over the controversial issue of road to Amarnath cave shrine by asking the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani to visit the Amarnath cave in his chopper to see for himself whether a “concrete road” was being constructed in the area.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating Rambiyara bridge here in south Kashmir, Omar said:
“I will keep State helicopters at the disposal of Syed Ali Shah Geelani to fly over Pahalgam-Amarnath track. He can select any photographer of his own choice and have a complete aerial view of the mountains and the track. Let him show us where macadam is being laid even over a metre of the track”, he told Geelani and ridiculed what he termed as “falsehood being circulated in this regard to disturb peace.”
“Some people have become habitual of circulating unfounded and false rumours to mislead public opinion and disturb peace. They try to create law and order situation as they want to thrive on false propaganda,” he said and asked the people to understand the need of peace for prosperity, welfare and employment generation in the State and not to fall prey to the “nefarious designs” of these people.
Omar said that some people want to create law and order situation by circulating false propaganda about construction of road from Pahalgam to Amarnath Cave adding that there is no truth in this rumour. “A separatist leader is talking of agitation and issues calendar without looking into facts and ascertaining the truth”, he said adding that no road is being built from Pahalgam to Amarnath Cave. “It is all false propaganda. The papers submitted by the State Government in the Supreme Court and the order of the Apex Court itself substantiates and vindicates the fact that no road is being constructed in the said area,” he said adding that those indulging in this propaganda should go through 200 page document provided by the State Government to the Supreme Court in this regard and show us where there has been any talk of building a road.
