Srinagar, Oct 24: A musk deer fawn injured by stray dogs was Wednesday rescued by locals and Wildlife department officials from a residential locality in Batamaloo area of south City.
Officials said nearly five-month-old fawn was spotted by some locals at Firdousabad, Batamaloo.
“The deer had bite marks on its body. It was attacked by stray dogs before being rescued,” the locals said.
The locals later informed the Wildlife authorities about the presence of the fawn. “We shifted the fawn to Veterinary hospital for treatment,” Nisar Ahmad a wildlife official said.
The Regional Wildlife Warden Kashmir Manzoor Ahmad Tak said fawn has been shifted to Dachigam National Park.
“The musk deer might have been separated from its herd and reached Batamaloo with a flock of sheep from nearby forests of Budgam. The fawn is well and our experts are monitoring its health,” Tak said.
Pertinently Musk Deer is usually found in the Dachigam National Park and upper reaches of Sonamarg and the Zabarwan hills.
