Big Gatherings Expected At Eidgah, Hazratbal
Srinagar, Oct 26: Muslims across Jammu and Kashmir would be celebrating Eid-ul-Adha, the festival of sacrifice, on Saturday.
Thousands of people are expected to attend the congregational Eid prayers in Eidgahs, Masjids and Shrines across the state. The biggest gathering is expected at the historic Eidgah grounds here and also the famed Hazratbal shrine on the city outskirts. Large gatherings are also expected at Eidgahs in different district headquarters.
Eid prayers would be held at Dargah Hazratbal shrine at 10.30 AM and at 10.45 AM at Eidgah in Old Srinagar.
After the prayers, people would be slaughtering sheep or cattle to mark the festival, an important religious occasion for the Muslims around the globe, to honor the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his young firstborn son as an act of submission to Allah.
Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani is scheduled to offer Eid prayers at Hazratbal shrine and also address the gathering there.
The Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will offer Eid prayers at Eidgah here while as the Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Muhammad Yasin Malik is scheduled to offer his Eid prayers at TRC Ground here.
Meanwhile a day before Eid-ul-Adha, markets in the summer capital and elsewhere were abuzz, with customers shopping till late in the evening. The markets wore a festive look.
The heavy rush of shopper caused traffic jam at several places, although traffic authorities had devised a plan to ensure smooth flow of vehicular movement.
People thronged the mutton and chicken sellers from early morning. In busy Maharaja Bazaar and Koker Bazaar here, people had to wait for long hours due to huge rush to get their orders delivered.
