Govt has failed to protect Muslims in Zanaskar: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, Oct 26: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday alleged that the J&K Government, especially the district administration of Kargil, has completely failed to provide protection to the Muslims in Zanaskar.
“All the government institutions are paralysed and there is no practical implementation of law in the area. The anti-Muslims rioters have created fear and terror and the Muslims are being forced to migrate to other areas,” said Mirwaiz while addressing Friday prayer meeting at historic Jamia Masjid here today, adding, “Those who have embraced Islam in the area have done so on their volition and without any force or pressure.”
Expressing solidarity with the Muslims of Zanaskar, Mirwaiz has appealed to the Buddhists to desist from “creating an atmosphere that may harm the religious amity and brotherhood.”
Terming October 27 as the “blackest day” in the history of Kashmir, Mirwaiz said on this day in 1947 “New Delhi airdropped its armed forces on the land of Jammu Kashmir who forcibly took its control.” “The huge military concentration, execution of black laws and unlimited powers delegated to armed forces in Kashmir are the basic impediments in the way of creating congenial atmosphere for talks to resolve Kashmir issue,” he said, reiterating his demand for withdrawal of armed forces from the Kashmir.
“No claim can be made about the improvement in situation for any political process unless and until the process of demilitarization is started in the state,” Mirwaiz maintained.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz has appealed to the well-off people of Sopore to come forward and extend wholehearted assistance to the families whose residential houses were razed down during an encounter recently.
Hurriyat has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of noted pro-freedom personality Muhammad Yousuf alias Palay Khan of Pampore in a road accident, praying for the deceased and sympathising with the bereaved family.
