Kargil, Oct 29: A high level team of the government comprising Tourism Minster Nawang Rigzan Jora, MoS Home Nasir Aslam Wani and Director General Police, Ashok Prasad visited trouble-hit Zanskar area on Sunday and held deliberations with the representatives of majority and minority communities.
MLA Zanskar Feroz Khan, Executive Councilor Zanskar affairs Phunchok Tashi, SDM Zanskar and Tehsildar Zanskar also attended the meeting.
Officials said that during the meeting members of both the communities resolved that they would work for the restoration of peace in the area that had been shattered following the conversion controversy some days back triggering clashes between the two communities.
“Representatives from both the communities put forth various issues to which team members assured timely redressal. They urged both the communities to maintain peace and harmony in the region. Both the communities assured that they would extend full co-operation in this regard,” a police spokesman said in a statement.
Before flying to Zanskar the team held a meeting with officials of district administration at Kargil. Besides others Chief Executive Councillor Kargil, Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, Deputy Commissioner Kargil M Raju and Senior Superintendent of Police Javed Iqbal were also present in the meeting, the spokesperson added.
