Restore Dastgeer Sahib (RA) shrine in shortest possible time: Sagar
Seeks double shift work, conservation of traditional architecture

Srinagar, Oct 30: The Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Muhammad Sagar Tuesday asked the officials to “ensure that restoration work on the shrine of Dastigeer Sahib (RA) be completed within the shortest possible time” an d that the executing agencies work in synergy so that the bottlenecks if any are removed, an official handout said.
The Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting and on-the-spot inspection of the pace of the work being carried out on the restoration of the Khanyaar shrine.
Vice Chairman Wakf Board, MY Qadri, Managing Director JKPCC, Gupta, Chief Engineer R&B, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, State Convener INTACH, Saleem Beig and various senior officers of different departments and executing agencies were present on the occasion.
Sagar directed the officers to ensure that the work be geared up. “Explore double shift mode of working so that the shrine is completed as early as possible,” Sagar maintained. He directed them to ensure that there is “no deviation from the older architectural patterns and in this regard they should be in constant touch with INTACH for the expert advice and guidance”.
“The Minister also asked the officers to carry on the proposed beautification work of the catchment areas of the shrine and in this regard adequate compensation should be provided to the families/shopkeepers whose structures are being acquired,” the handout said adding “it should also be carried out in consonance with the local architecture and taste.”
Sagar also “directed the concerned to ensure that the newly constructed mosque which is an extension to the shrine is completed by April 2013 so that the devotees can perform their religious duties there.”
