Locals Demand Work On Both Sides Of Z–Tunnel

Srinagar, Oct, 5: Kargil district Friday observed complete shutdown to press for the demand for starting work on the Zojilla Tunnel from both ends to ensure its early completion.
The call for a day-long Bandh was given by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party. Reports said all shops and business establishments at the district headquarters remained shut for the day.
A rally was taken out from the PDP office which marched through the main streets of the town and culminated at Lal Chowk.
“It was led by Advocate Muratza, Haji Qasim, Kachu Gulzar Khan and Najjaf Ali,” reports said. People carried placards and raised slogans against the “government apathy” towards the problems of Ladakh region.
The demonstrators urged the government to start work of the Zojilla Tunnel from Minamarg side as well.
The work has been taken up from Z- Morh which marks the first stage of the Zojilla Tunnel. The PDP is demanding simultaneous execution of work from both ends to complete it in least possible time.
