MURAN RECEIVES ERRATIC POWER SUPPLY, PEOPLE AGHAST

SEEK PDD CHIEF ENGINEER'S INTERVENTION

Pulwama, Sep 9: The inhabitants of Muran in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have accused the Power Development Department (PDD) of resorting to unscheduled power cuts.
According to the locals, the people were facing immense problems due to the erratic power supply. Muran has a population of more than 800 households and is the biggest village in Rajpora Constituency. “However, the PDD hasn’t been able to provide the electricity according to the schedule framed by it,” the locals said.
“The untimely power cuts have now become routine. The private mills and business establishments are the worst sufferers due to the electricity problem,” the residents said, adding the shopkeepers down their shutters after the dusk due to non-availability of the electricity.
They said that due to the interrupted power supply, the studies of their children were also getting adversely affected. “The PDD snaps electricity supply during the evening hours due to which our children have to study under candle light,” the residents said adding that many children have developed eye ailments after continuously studying under poor illumination.
The residents said that the electric supply was better a decade ago. “We were having better power supply ten years ago when we were receiving the supply from Pulwama receiving station. But the situation changed drastically, after we were fed electricity from the Mitrigam receiving station and the power curtailments became order of the day,” the residents added.
Muhammad Yaqoob Ganaie a resident of the village also complained that the electricity voltage is very low.
According to them, they raised the issue about erratic power supply with the senior functionaries of the PDD department and district administration many a times. “However our pleas fell on deaf ears and the unscheduled power cuts are still frequent,” the locals added.
The inhabitants sought the intervention of Chief Engineer PDD in this regard.
