Outrage against anti-Islam video

Geelani Calls For Afternoon Protests today; Govt Seeks Ban On Controversial Video

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Sep 13: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has expressed strong anger and resentment against the blasphemous movie made on Prophet Muhammad (SAW), appealing to the Muslims of Kashmir to hold protest demonstrations against the video on September 14 after Friday prayers.
“We appeal to the Muslims of Kashmir to stage strong protests against this blasphemous act to put across the message to the world that Muslims can tolerate anything but cannot keep silent over such impudence and audacity,” said Geelani in a statement today, urging the Ulema and Imams of Masjids to raise their voice against the blasphemous act in their Friday sermons and lead the token protests after prayers.
Terming the blasphemous act as the “handiwork of anti-Islamic forces”, Geelani said: “The Zionists, Christians and Hindus are pursuing a joint agenda against Muslims in the world. They are trying their best to offend the religious sentiments of Muslims.”
Geelani hoped that the Muslims would rise above their national, maslaki and factional consideration and fight together the anti-Islamic forces and scuttle their nefarious plans.
Meanwhile, the Hurriyat has termed as unjustified the arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Tehsil president Abdullah Nasir of Palhalan by police, demanding his immediate release.
In a statement today, a spokesman of the Hurriyat said: “The Tehreek-e-Hurriyat is purely a political organization and its leaders, office-bearers and activists are pursuing its programmes peacefully and politically. The harassment of its office-bearer and workers is sheer violation of law and constitution.”
The spokesman alleged that police also arrested the Muhammad Ismail, brother-in-law of Abdullah Nasir, when he visited the police station, Pattan, to see him (Nasir) today.
The spokesman also expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health of its incarcerated leader Ghulam Qadir Bhat of Gushti, Kupwara, in jail. He appealed to the functionaries of International Red Cross for intervention to ensure that the ailing incarcerated leader was provided suitable medical treatment in jail.
Bhat, according to Hurriyat statement, has been serving detention for the past 17 and a half years in different jails including Amphala, Kote Balwal, Kahtua.

PTI ADDS
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government asked the Centre to block the controversial video on social networking sites fearing it could trigger law and problem in the Muslim-majority state.
"We have requested the nodal agency in the Information Technology Ministry to block the video," state Home Secretary B R Sharma told PTI in Srinagar.
He said the content of the video was deemed offensive and could trigger law and order problems in the Valley.

Desecrating act: NC
National Conference Thursday strongly condemned the anti-Islam film on Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
“With deep unhappiness we found out that a producer made a film in the United States which allegedly insults the Prophet Mohammad (SAW) while Terry Jones, an American pastor released a video clip promoting the offensive film on the Youtube” said NC Spokesman Tanvir Sadiq. “We strongly believe such people along with the pastor and his supporters represent a radical mindset who are hell bent to vitiate peaceful atmosphere across the world.”
He said: “We strongly and resolutely denounce this desecrating act.”
‘Won’t allow entry of Americans’
Shutting the doors of Kashmir for Americans and strongly reacting against the blasphemous video, the Grand Mufti of Kashmir Mufti Bashir ud Din has said that these activities of the vested interests cannot harm faith of Muslims. “Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was sent for the whole world as a mercy from the Almighty. Such blasphemous videos will not affect the Prophet’s (SAW) noble personality,” he told local news gathering agency KNS. “We will not allow any American citizen to enter the valley and I appeal to people to protest in a peaceful manner.”
He said such steps show the “mental insanity of the Zionists and such acts hurt religious sentiment of Muslims across the globe.”
