Army rules out infiltration in Uri

Srinagar, Sep 16: Army on Sunday ruled out any possibility of militants infiltrating into this side through Uri sector in north Kashmir, saying, “Militant killed in the encounter was a part of the receiving party.”
Talking to Greater Kashmir General Officer Commanding Baramulla based 19-Infantry Division, Major General Bipin Rawat, said, “It is believed that the slain militant was a part of the receiving party and he was not among the new lot. We have beefed up the vigil in the sector to meet any eventuality.”
Giving details of the encounter which broke out on late Saturday evening the GOC said: “Soldiers of 18 Dogra regiment noticed suspicious movement of at least two suspects at Karata Behak near Mohra village. Suspects were asked to stop but they opened fire which was retaliated triggering an encounter in which one unidentified militant was killed. The body of the slain militant was recovered this morning.”
The GOC said that militants opened fire on the Army again in the morning and the exchange of fire continued till afternoon. “Searches in the area are going on. We believe that two to three militants are hiding in the area,” he added.
