10 dead in accidents
Srinagar/Jammu, Sep 23: Six persons are feared dead in a road accident in frontier district of Kupwara, while four persons including two soldiers, died and 24 others were injured in separate road mishaps in Jammu region, officials and reports said on Sunday.
Coordinator of the Disaster Management Cell Kashmir, Amir Ali, told Greater Kashmir a Tata Sumo ( No. JK01P-8632) fell in a deep gorge at Cobra Morh near Karnah in Kupwara district on Sunday evening. “At least six persons are feared dead in the mishap,” he said. “Rescue operations are on to retrieve the bodies and locate the injured.”
Meanwhile an Army vehicle, which was on its way from Poonch to Bhimbergali area in the Poonch district, skidded off the Jammu-Poonch highway and rolled down into a deep gorge at Tota-wali-gali this morning, officials said.
They said two soldiers, Lance Naik Vinod and driver Sepoy Shiv Kumar, died on the spot while another soldier Lance Naik Parmod was injured and has been hospitalized.
In a separate incident, a matador carrying a marriage party skidded off the road and rolled down into deep gorge in Kalar-Chingus belt in Rajouri district last night, officials said.
In the mishap, the conductor of the vehicle Ankush Kumar and a seven-year-old girl Vidhya were killed and 23 others were injured, they said.
