Admin sleeps on beggary menace!
IT is a shocking situation that despite daily reports about the menace of beggary in Srinagar City, government seems quite indifferent regarding the issue.
The other day, two college girls were on their way to home. When the girls were walking on Footbridge near Lal Mandi, half a dozen child beggars, all non-local, cornered them and asked for alms. The girls had a small amount with them and obviously hesitated to give it to the beggars.
However, the non-local beggars did not leave them but stopped their way. There were other people also walking on the bridge but no one could save the two girls from the horrible hands of the beggars while police seems to be napping on the issue. Ultimately one of the girls gave the only thirty rupees lying in her schoolbag to the beggars and then only they were allowed to proceed. This is a shameful situation which is not only faced by locals, but also by the foreign tourists who leave Valley with a negative impression of Kashmir. I think time has come when government should act drastically and drag the beggars out from the City roads.
