JK defeats Manipur, wins sub-Junior cricket championship

Srinagar, Sep 24: Jammu and Kashmir today defeated Manipur and bagged the 2nd Sub-Junior Cricket Championship played at Madr-e-Meharban Stadium Ganderbal.
 The championship was organised by Jammu and Kashmir 15-15 Cricket Association and was inaugurated by Minister for Sports, R S Chib on September 20. As many as 20 teams from different states of the country including J&K, Manipur, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttrakhand, Delhi, Mahrashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Tamil Nadu participated in the tournament.
 Highlighting the importance of sports in the mental and physical development of youth, the Additional Director General of Police Headquarters (ADGP) SP Vaid said that sports also provide an opportunity to explore their talent in other fields of life.
 Vaid who was the chief guest was speaking at the concluding function of the event.
 Vaid said that sports play an important role in creating discipline and spirit to work together among the youth. He said it also boosts the talent among the sportspersons to excel in other fields, besides creating passion, valour to face ups and downs of the life. Sports have now become a career option which provides entertainment to the people in the leisure movements of busiest life, the ADGP added.
 Appreciating the efforts of All India 15-15 Cricket Association and Jammu and Kashmir 15-15 Cricket Association for organising such event in the State, the ADGP said the activities provide a platform to the sportspersons of different regions of the country to assemble and excel. He said that such activities have also helped in utilizing the energies of the youth in the right direction and hone their talent. He disclosed that Jammu and Kashmir Police Organisation has been organising various national and State level sports tournaments for promoting sports culture in the State.
