Srinagar School team finishes 3rd
MAYO COLLEGE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Srinagar; Sep 24: The Under-19 Srinagar football team sponsored by Army and J&K Youth Services and Sports finished third in the Mayo College Football Trophy tournament held in Ajmer.
In the event, eight teams from different parts of country participated. The team qualified for semifinals after grilling league matches. They drew matches against previous year’s runner-up Mayo College Ajmer and Scindia School Gwalior, while beating Rashtriya Military School, Ajmer.
In the semi-final, the team put up a valiant effort in the second half by scoring four goals. However, they were beaten by 5-4 by Sherwood School, Nainital.
The team put up a sterling performance to clinch the third position beating Pine Groove School 4-1.
The team also visited Madhopur, New Delhi, Ajmer and Chandigarh during the tour and interacted with the Commanding officers of the units of different locations. They also met Lt Gen AK Siwach in Newa Delhi, a communiqué said.
Despite the tight travelling schedule, the team visited Purana Kila, India Gate, Dargah at Ajmer, various malls at Ajmer and Chandigarh, besides fun ride on the Delhi Metro, the communiqué said.
At Mayo College, the team had opportunity to witness new skills and techniques employed by other school teams and closely interacted with students of the college while enjoying campus life in one of India’s most prestigious institutions.
