Farooq’s security guards ‘heckle’ IPS officer

SSG Personnel Ask Police To Stay Away From VIP

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

Srinagar, Sep 2: A scuffle broke out between the SSG personnel guarding Union Minister Farooq Abdullah and an IPS officer posted as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in the city following an argument over their jurisdiction with regard to security arrangements.
The incident took place at Amar Singh College at Gogjibagh in the city where Dr Abdullah had gone to review the pace of work on the renovation of the play ground.
The SSG wireless operator refused to allow SDPO Imtiyaz Ismail Parray into Amar Singh College ground saying that local police should take care of security arrangements outside the Amar Singh College as the SSG personnel were taking care of the security arrangements inside the venue, police sources said.
They said heated words were exchanged between the two officials with SSG personnel shoving the senior officer aside as the Union Minister was about to arrive at the venue.
Moments after Abdullah left the venue, the policemen had an altercation with the SSG officials and allegedly thrashed some of them, the sources said.
The incident was reported to senior officers of SSG as well as local police, who resolved the matter amicably, the sources added.
