Dr Rafiq Pampori is new GMC Principal

MANZOOR-UL-HASSSAN

Srinagar, Sep 29: The J&K Government has appointed Prof Rafiq Pampori as the Principal of Government Medical College Srinagar.
Prof Pampori, who would head the Department ENT at the GMC, took over the charge from the outgoing principal Prof Qazi Masood who attained superannuation.
“It’s a happy moment for me that my services were recognized,” Prof Pampori remarked after assuming the office today.
He said: “While I take up this assignment there are some responsibilities on my shoulders to make the GMC a glorious institution.”
Prof Pampori said his focus would be to modernize all departments and start super-specialty services in the GMC.
He said the Medical College is the mother of all institutions and “I want to raise its standard by introducing TRIAGE system, Emergency Medicine and Modernized Casualty in all associated hospitals of the GMC.”
“Today the concept of medical education has changed. It’s time when students prefer super-specialization. I will try to bring that concept in the college along with new dimensions in Cardiology, Gastroenterology and Neurology,” Prof Pampori said.
Prof Pampori, 56, hails from Soura Srinagar. He started his academic career from National School Karan Nagar and later completed his secondary school education in 1974 from SP College.
He pursued MBBS at Government Medical College Srinagar in 1974.
Prof Pampori did his fellowship in Neuro-otology at AIIMS New Delhi. He was appointed as Registrar GMC Srinagar in 1984.
In 1990, Prof Pampori was appointed as lecturer in the ENT Department of GMC Srinagar.
