Traffic police to launch drive against unauthorised beacon lights

Jammu, Sep 29: Travelling in a car with red beacon may be a matter of prestige for some people, but they may land in trouble if found not entitled to install a beacon light in their vehicles.
Traffic Police in Jammu and Kashmir is launching a “massive drive” from October 1 to check the unauthorised use of beacon lights, during which it will check vehicles having such installations to know whether the commuter was entitled to have it, said the report.
"We have noticed that even some government officials flaunt red beacons on their cars though they are not entitled to use them. We are launching the drive from Monday to check the misuse," DIG Traffic Range Jammu, Shakeel Ahmed Beig said, during a traffic awareness camp organised today at Warehouse Jammu.
"Strict action will be initiated against the defaulters misusing the red beacon lights under Motor Vehicle Act as law is supreme and should be honoured by every citizen in all its forms", he said.
The DIG said that J&K government has issued an order under which only the specified dignitaries and officers have been authorized to use beacon lights on the top of their vehicles and anybody violating the directions will be dealt under law.
“One day grace period has been given to the violators for the removal of red beacon lights and drive will start with October 1”, he said.
Those authorised to use beacon lights in Jammu and Kashmir include Governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Chairman Legislative Council, Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State, Leader of Opposition in the House, Judge of High Court, Dy Speaker Legislative Assembly, Dy Chairman Legislative Council, Mayor of Jammu/Srinagar within their respective Municipal limits, Chairman's of LAHDC, Kargil/ Leh, Member of Parliament, Member of State Legislature, Chief Secretary, Advocate General, Chairman Public Service Commission, Financial Commissioner, Director General of Police and Equivalent ranks in Police, Principal Secretaries, All additional DGPs, District Magistrate, District SPs, Pilot/Control Room/fire Brigade vehicles, Police Patrol/ambulances/Escort Vehicles (blue lasher light), Vehicles on Airport (Amber flasher), Principal/District and Session Judges within their respective jurisdictions, vice Chairman J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Gujjar and Bakerwal, vice chairman J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People, Vice Chairman J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kissans, Vice Chairman J&K State Advisory Board for Development for Welfare and Development of other backward classes, vice Chairman J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Schedule Castes, Chairman J& Accountability Commissioner, Chairman J&K State Information Commissioner, Chairman J&K State Commissioner for Backward Classes, Chairman J&K State Commission for Women, Chairman J&K State Human Right Commission, Chairman J&K State Finance Commission, Chairman J&K State Consumer Protection Commission, Chairman J&K State Electricity Regulatory Commissioner, Chairman J&K State vigilance Commission and Principal Accountant General J&K.
