Omar grants Rs 1.21 lakh to visually impaired lawyer

Jammu, Mar 30: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah granted Rs 1,21,500 to Advocate Suraj Singh, who has a hundred per cent vision disability, for purchase of Braille system and other required equipment.
The cheque of Rs 1,21,500 was handed over to Singh today, officials said. Hailing from the remote village of Thall in Billawar tehsil of Kathua  district, Singh despite a hundred per cent vision disability qualified for the degree of Bachelor of Law.
He has been enrolled as an Advocate by the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir giving him permission to practice in the High Court and Sub-ordinate Courts in the State.
He was unable to practice smoothly for want of necessary equipment like Braille system, computer and camera scanner while preparing briefs and consulting law books.
This aspect was brought to the notice of the Chief Minister by the General Secretary of National Federation of the Blind Ram Dass Dubey requesting for financial support to the said Advocate so that he could procure the necessary equipment.
