2 buildings gutted in BB Cantt fire

Srinagar, Apr 13: Two buildings of Army’s ‘Signal Company’ at the Badami Bagh Cantonment here were gutted in a fire incident on Saturday evening. The cause of fire is being ascertained.
Police said the fire occurred at around 7.45 PM in one of the buildings of Army’s Signal Center located near Shivpora Crossing here. Police said the fire then spread and damaged one more building.
Police said “most of the material in the buildings was fully damaged.” “The cause of fire is being ascertained,” a police official, who was monitoring the situation, said. He said most of communication equipment got damaged in the fire.
Reports said as soon the fire erupted, around half a dozen fire tenders of the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) rushed to spot to douse the flames. Army’s own fire-tenders were also pressed in.
A spokesman of Army’s 15 Corps confirmed that two buildings of Signals Company were gutted in the fire “which appears to be accidental.” “The fire has been prevented from spreading to other buildings,” he said.
The incident triggered panic in Sonwar area and people were seen running helter-skelter. The area witnessed traffic jams for some time.
