23 MORE POWER PROJECTS TO COME UP
JKSPDC Initiates Process
Jammu, Apr 13: The Jammu and Kashmir government has awarded construction work of five out of 23 hydel power projects—of 7 MW to 45 MW capacity—advertised under the State Hydel Policy-2011.
Of 30 power projects, with a cumulative capacity of 302 MWs identified in different districts of the State under the Policy, the J&K State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) has advertised 23 power projects with a total capacity of 140.5 MWs. The construction work for five projects has already been awarded while the bidding process for another two projects stands completed, official sources told Greater Kashmir.
Among the five projects taken up so far, the project with maximum of 45 MW power generation potential has been proposed for Bichlari Ramban while another project with 40 MW capacity is being constructed in district Reasi. The remaining three projects, the sources said, are being set up at Kanzil Wangath in Ganderbal (27 MW), Girjan-ki-Gali in Poonch (12 MW) and Chandanwari in Baramula (7 MW).
The two more projects for which the tendering process has been completed are proposed to be set up at Patnazi Bunjwa in Doda (21 MW) and Erin Bandipora (10 MW).
Meanwhile, out of seven projects with a cumulative capacity of 70 MW taken up under the State Hydel Policy-2003, two projects—one at Ranjana Dunadi (15 MW) and Tangmarg Baramulla (10 MW)— are targeted to be commissioned this year as the work is nearing completion.
However, the work on the 12-MW capacity HPP proposed at Hirpora Pulwama and 5 MW project at Kathua is yet to take off as the land acquisition process is still on.
The work on the remaining three projects at Kahmil Kupwara (4 MW), Boniyar, Baramulla (12 MW) and Mandi Poonch (12.50 MW) is in progress.
