Book of the week

Book: 'The Eastern Brew'
Author:  Syed Sarwar
Publisher:  Partridge India

About the Book:
“The Eastern Brew” is a motley assortment of the finest works of some of the prominent Urdu short story writers in translation. This collection includes stories that grew and were brewed in the seething cauldron of life, simmering in the eventful world of India and Pakistan. The stories oscillate between the inner world of the protagonists’ painful nostalgia, excessive psychopathological narcissism, spiritual subterfuge, the crisis of identity, and the outer existential realities of a society, ridden with class hatred, violence, destruction of human dignity, and in a constantly menacing flux of unpredictable circumstances, plunging the characters into the appalling dilemma of existence.
This book is a masterful representation of the literary brilliance that can be found in the Urdu culture, fully capturing the essence of the socially and politically tumultuous world of India and Pakistan.
