Mir for promotion of handicrafts

Baramulla, Dec 30: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir today called for rejuvenation and promotion of Handicrafts for preservation of state heritage besides boosting the socio-economic status of the people involved with the industry.
 The Minister was addressing Artisans in an awareness camp jointly organized by Handicrafts department and SICOP at Baramulla, an official statement said.
 Mir said that Kashmir Artisan has golden hands and their handmade crafts have been acknowledged and liked throughout the globe.
 He urged upon them to adopt latest technology for promoting handicraft sector, besides take maximum benefit from welfare schemes launched by the Government.
 On the occasion, the Minister distributed cheques to the tune of Rs 1.15 crore among 200 artisans.
 The Minister was informed that as many as 57 training centres of Handicrafts department are providing training to the people in the district and presently 1415 youth of Baramulla district are being given training in these centres and they are provided Rs. 700 and Rs. 500 respectively as stipend.   
 It was also given out that 20,000 youth have been given training till date in the district.
