OIC invites Mirwaiz for Cairo summit

Srinagar, Jan 31: Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has invited the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to attend the fourth summit of Islamic leaders at Cairo, the capital city of Egypt.
“Mirwaiz has been invited to attend the summit on February 6,” a Hurriyat (M) spokesman said in a statement.
“The summit is held after a gap of every four years. It would discuss the political and regional challenges faced by Muslims,” he added.
The spokesman said that the conference would also discuss the burning issues like the situations in Syria and Afghanistan. “Besides, the Kashmir issue will also be discussed from all angles,” he said.  “Hurriyat has an observer’s status in OIC. Mirwaiz has several times raised the Kashmir issue in the past summits. He has discussed Kashmir dispute in its proper historical context.”
The spokesman said OIC’s cooperation to play its part to resolve the long pending Kashmir issue was a must. “Kashmir has been a constant source of tension between the two nuclear armed countries and a main cause of political instability in south Asia. The conference provides an important platform to Hurriyat to discuss and stress for the resolution of Kashmir dispute,” he added.
