SMC organizes awareness programmes on waste segregation
Srinagar, Jan 31: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today organised awareness programmes on waste segregation at various areas in the city including Raj Bagh, Jawahar Nagar and Hyderpora. According to SMC’s Media Relation Officer, the Joint Commissioner (Adm) SMC Fayaz Ahmed Balla visited various areas and held interactive sessions with locals including shopkeepers on the significance of segregation of biodegradable and non biodegradable waste. On the occasion, color coded bins both green and blue were distributed among the households in his presence.
“The non biodegradable waste (plastic, bottles) shall be collected once a week where as the biodegradable waste (kitchen waste, leftovers, vegetables) shall be lifted on rest of the days. This will help in decomposing the waste separately and scientifically at our landfill dumping site Achan where SMC has recently started the Bio remedial plant to make the place stink free,” Balla said.
The programs were organised under the supervision of Chief Sanitation Officer Manzoor Ahmed Tarray.
