Police bust seduction-cum-extortion racket
Government Employee, 2 Cops Arrested

Srinagar, Feb 1: Police on Friday busted a seduction-cum-extortion racket with the arrest of a female government employee and her two accomplices from the police department. The lady is accused of seducing and luring people while her confederates from police used to blackmail the ‘entrapped victims’ and draw huge sums of money out of them. The trio then used to share the booty.
Police has registered a case FIR no. 20/2013 under section: 382/342/120-B and 510 at police station Saddar against the accused trio including the lady and the cops Farooq Ahmad and Muhammad Ishaq.
An inquiry has also been ordered into the matter and Superintendent of Police (SP) south Srinagar, Muhammad Suleiman Chowdhary has been named as inquiry officer.
The accused cops posted at Police Station Sadder in south Srinagar were detained Wednesday afternoon after it came to light during under-cover investigations that the duo was allegedly in league with a woman from the Natipora area of the south city and they were extorting money under duress of illegal activities. The woman was subsequently also detained Wednesday evening.
Sources said that cops were allegedly in league with the woman, working in the state’s Social Welfare Department in the seduction-cum-extortion racket. The woman has been arrested second time. Earlier, she faced detention allegedly for embezzling funds of the Social Welfare Department meant for widows.
Enumerating the modus operandi being used by the gang, a police officer said that the accused lady used to first develop relationship with a person on mobile phone and after as the conversation used to go from informal to lewd, she used to entice the “catch” for “immoral act” at some place. When the “catch” conveyed his willingness to come to the pre-determined location, the women used to immediately call her two accomplice cops and inform them about the “catch” and the location. While the lady used to be presumably in a comprising position with the “catch”, the cops would suddenly appear at the scene and “after seeing the duo in an intimate position used to start threatening the catch with legal action.”
“However, after deliberations and negotiations with the catch, the cops used to finally settle a deal with the entrapped victims in lieu of huge sums of money. The trio then used to share the booty,” police sources said.
“Investigating officials are trying to ascertain for how long the activity was going on,” sources said adding both the cops and the woman were put to sustained questioning Friday.
“I think certain people would be questioned while probing the matter,” a senior police officer said.
Earlier in July 2011, police had busted a sex racket in hotel Nida, opposite Iqbal Park Srinagar and arrested 13 persons, including four women.
